The Grabber 1 -The Rundown
The Rundown
The Grabber is the first 10 minutes of a feature film, whose purpose is to make sure you pull the audience in, get their interest and hold onto it to be sure they will stick around long enough to see what might happen. If you don't do your job, most people are not die-hard filmmakers and screenwriters, and are not as likely to stay tuned to or stay in the theater to watch something that they don't find interesting. So you job is to make sure they are interested.
It doesn't matter what genre you are writing for, there are ways to hold onto your audience and keep them engaged. In action films, you want the scenes to move quickly from action to action. In romatic comedies, you want to be sure that you characters are doing something other than just staring into each other's eyes, or else you have a made-for-tv Hallmark or Lifetime TV style film, which is not a feature tilm at all.
So in this course, we will examine Grabbers from several different genres, good and bad, and evaluate them, as well as do some practice work. You can purchase this separately or it comes with the Master Class.
I've listed it as number 6 because though it is the first thing an audience will see, and you will likely write it first, once you complete your screenplay, you'll want to go back and tighten it up to be sure it is as effective as possible. This class is good for experienced screenwriters with completed work who want to work on their opening as well as new filmmakers.
